“I’ve always had my hands in the earth.

When I was 4, I can remember running out our backdoor and out into the Alberta prairie each Spring to look for the first crocus. I’d search for those fuzzy purple noses poking through the hard ground and finding them would make my heart sing. I would spend hours in my Mom’s garden and loved the smell of the freshly dug earth. Dropping those hard, green pea seeds into the holes my little fingers made still resonates with me today.

Over the years, guided by my studies in Herbalism, Permaculture and Forest Gardening, the straight rows and tidy gardens of the 60’s have given way to understanding what makes for a truly wonderful garden. I have realized the importance of, and developed a respect for, the wildness that nature serves up year after year, no matter how hard we try to “tame” our gardens.

Fast forward “many” years and now,
with our move to Nova Scotia in May of 2023, I’m learning and discovering yet again! Hurricanes, Ticks and Deer, oh my…
